Last Command

Unreviewed import — a classic from the public domain; its solution has not been machine-checked yet.

riddle
A soldier from the rebels lay dying on the battlefield; a brave but sturdy fighter, he could fall but not yield. A comrade stood by him as his life-blood trickled fast, bending down with pitying eyes, to wrap him in my last. Seeking his country's glory amidst the chaos, my first stood for the South. The dying soldier faltered, grasping his comrade's hand, saying 'Make my whole, brother, it's my last command.'

Solution

Commit an attempt to unseal the proof. Write your answer — right or wrong, thinking it through is the point.
