You have nine tiles labeled with the whole numbers from 1 through 9. Place each tile exactly once in a three-by-three grid. The arrangement must be perfectly balanced: the three numbers in every horizontal row must have the same sum, and that identical sum must also appear in every vertical column and along both long diagonals. Assuming such an arrangement can be made, what is the common total shared by all eight lines?
